| Originally
an offshoot of the primordial Rolling Stones,
lead guitarist Dick Taylor broke away to form
the Pretty Things in 1962. Securing a major
label deal within months of their inception,
the band attracted press attention with their
unfettered power and controversial, unkempt
appearance, their raunchy style of R&B
spawned a run of successful releases. By 1967,
The Pretty Things had become immersed in the
underground psychedelic scene, developing
a more harmony-led, experimental sound. Continuing
to play live and record throughout the 80s
and 90s, The Pretty Things continue their
evolution as an enduring musical force. (back

| The
Calculating Mr. One is a whodunit with a difference....
1898, London. Someone is trying to steal Professor
Ebenezer Brain Teaser's latest invention,
an incredible calculating machine. Will Jeremiah
Bloodhound, probably Britain's worst Private
Detective, add two and two together? Why are
'Circus Numero' the 'prime' suspects? And
why are they 'counting' on Kitty Beagle to
'calculate' who is Mr One? By using number
patterns, mental calculations and deduction,
help 'Bloodhound and Beagle' unravel this
mathematical mystery. And see how Kitty struggles
to overcome Victorian preconceptions about
what a woman should be doing with her life!
The Calculating Mr. One is a musical comedy
that explores the importance of mathematics
and problem solving in everyday life and is
based on the National Curriculum for Maths
and the Numeracy Targets. It will be available
at the Key Stage 2 level except where indicated.
It's also interactive with the audience required
to solve mathematical problems in order for
play to progress.

| Dylan
Moran, star of Black Books, Shaun of the Dead
and Run Fat Boy Run, is back with a brand
new show, What It Is. Moran's legendary stand
up rants have sold out across the world cementing
this unkempt wordsmith's reputation as one
of the foremost comics of his generation.
Likened to Dave Allen and labelled ‘The
Oscar Wilde of Comedy', Dylan is unpredictable,
bizarre, elegiac, often cruel but above all
painfully funny. Moran sees through the joys
and disappointments of human existence with
the sensibility and intense perception of
a man teetering on the edge. He chews life
up and coughs it out.

HALFWAY
TO PARADISE - THE BILLY FURY STORY |
|
| Thursday
26th February 2009 - 7.30pm |
| In
this, the 25th Anniversary of the year Billy's
death, Fury's Tornados remember a very special
man. The musical legacy and image of Billy
Fury, who many believe to have been the UK’s
finest solo male performer of his era, taken
together with the muscial best of some of
his contempories and rivals, surely gives
a firm lie to the widely held, but quite mistaken
belief, that between the demise of Rock ‘n’
Roll and the advent of the ‘Rock Music’
of the mid-Beatles period there was nothing.
