Thursday 11th December 2008 - 7.30pm
Fans mob them in Japan. They've played at Ronnie Scott's, the Royal Festival Hall and Glastonbury. And now the Symphony Hall warmly welcomes these funny, twanging, singing, awesome, foot-stomping ukulele players. From its first sell-out gig more than 20 years ago The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain has shown audiences a good time. Whatever your taste in music – Tchaikovsky, Nirvana, Kate Bush, The Sex Pistols, Otis Redding – there's something in the line-up that'll get your toes tapping. Their on-stage antics make for an informal evening packed with laughs. But don't think the orchestra is a spoof; each member is a serious virtuosic player of the ukulele. Sit back in the cabaret-style seating and let this cult orchestra sing, strum and pluck its way into the cockles of your heart, only this time with a festive slant. (back to top)
