CAN
ANY MOTHER HELP ME? (in
The Door) |
|
| Wednesday
18th to Saturday 21st March 2009 - 7.45pm |
| An
evocative, dynamic and touching new play,
bringing to life the funny and often moving
stories of a group of women whose lives became
intimately connected through the simple act
of writing letters. From marriage to childbirth,
hidden desires to socialism, housework to
wartime politics, the story of the Cooperative
Correspondence Club delves into lifelong friendships
and domestic tragedies and allows us an opportunity
for that most human of pleasures, eavesdropping.
Following the sell-out success of their last
creation, Thatcher The Musical, Foursight
Theatre, renowned for their distinctive style
of ensemble theatre, turn from the epic to
the everyday with a poignant production, featuring
live music, which proves that there is no
such thing as an ordinary life. Matinee
performance on Saturday at 2.45pm. (back

CHANCE YOUTH THEATRE'S ROMEO & JULIET
(in
The Door) |
|
| Thursday
26th & Friday 27th March 2009 - 7pm |
The
pupils of St Catherine’s and Trinity
High Schools have joined together to put on
a dazzling production of Shakespeare’s
most famous play, Romeo And Juliet.
But rather then forbidden love and feuding
families, all hell breaks loose when the two
schools go to war. Will they put their differences
aside and make up before curtain up? 1st Chance
Youth Theatre was established in 2007 by two
young women from St. Basil’s –
a charity for homeless young people. It was
set up with the help of The REP and the two
young women are partway through an apprenticeship
at the theatre. (back

THE
MOON, THE MOON (in
The Door) |
|
| Wednesday
1st to Saturday 4th April 2009 - 7.45pm |
A
man stands on the edge of the shore. He’s
made Christmas dinner. It’s February.
He’s going to walk across the water
and apologise to his wife’s family.
And then he’s locked in a cellar, wearing
someone else’s pyjamas. Upstairs, his
self-appointed doctor and nurse say they can
help him. Heal him. And the Moon, who has
been watching him wander out of his mind with
loss, sings to him, desperate for him to join
her. The internationally acclaimed Unlimited
Theatre’s new show is a haunting and
darkly witty new play about loving, losing
and beautiful new beginnings – lit by
a singing moon. (back

SECURITY
(in
The Door) |
|
| Wednesday
22nd to Friday 24th April 2009 - 7.45pm |
| This
comical and moving tale of unexpected friendship
confronts the issues of security and identity
through a fusion of performance poetry, theatre,
movement and song. Set within the beating
heart of London, the chaotic stories of five
characters in crisis are exposed through the
eye of a camera. What happens when one generation
collides with another and cultural expectations
clash? Does the flash of a blade in broad
daylight mean the end or the beginning of
Security? Find out when age and youth battle
as Palestine meets Peckham. Zena Edwards takes
storytelling into the twenty-first century.

SERIOUS
MONEY (in
the Main House) |
|
| Friday
8th to Saturday 23rd May 2009 - 7.30pm |
| As
Britain’s financial turmoil dominates
the headlines we step back to 1987 when the
financial world came tumbling down with the
Wall Street crash. Caryl Churchill’s
play Serious Money takes a look at the ruthless
world of corporate finance and City greed.
The Big Bang has changed the City. The square
mile has been invaded by white knights and
corporate raiders. Hot-shot dealer Billy Corman
is plotting to take over the unsuspecting
company Albion, aided and abetted by the new
breed of yuppie traders. But their plans go
awry when trader Jake Todd is found dead and
the Department of Trade and Industry is brought
in to investigate. Full of satire and humour,
Serious Money conveys the hectic excitement
and the moral danger of financial risk bringing
to life the swaggering, foul mouthed yuppies
of the 80s. A major force in British theatre,
Caryl Churchill is one of the greatest and
most celebrated playwrights of her generation.
Her plays include Cloud Nine, Top Girls and
A Number, which fast became one of the 21st
century’s most acclaimed plays. Serious
Money received its World Premiere at the Royal
Court Theatre in 1987 after which it enjoyed
runs in the West End and on Broadway.
