| THESE FOUR STREETS (in The Door) | | | Thursday 12th to Saturday 28th February 2009 - 7.30pm | | In October 2005 the rumour of a rape sparked disturbances in Lozells, Birmingham, that led to the killing of one man, widespread damage and a fracture between two communities that had previously appeared to be living happily alongside one another. Inspired by the views, hopes and fears of local people connected to or affected by the disturbances, These Four Streets is an engaging and hopeful play that highlights a community’s fight to stay together. A collaboration between six young female writers, These Four Streets explores the power of rumour and what it’s like to live in a place that has been written off. Commissioned by The REP, this production, supported by the Sir Barry Jackson Trust, will also tour regionally as part of our annual Door On Tour. Matinee performances on Saturday 21st, Tuesday 24th, Thursday 26th & Friday 27th at 1.30pm. No performances on Sunday. | HIS DARK MATERIALS PART 1 (in the Main House) | | | Friday 13th March to Saturday 11th April 2009 | | Lyra and Will find themselves embarked on a thrilling journey through worlds familiar and unknown. Their great quest demands a savage struggle against the most dangerous of enemies. They encounter fantastical creatures in parallel worlds – rebellious angels, soul-eating spectres, child-catching gobblers and the armoured bears and witch-clans of the Arctic. Finally, before reaching, perhaps, the Republic of Heaven, they must visit the Land of the Dead… Adapted from Philip Pullman’s three novels into two full-length plays, Nicholas Wright’s stage version of His Dark Materials was a triumph when it premiered at the National Theatre in 2004. This new production directed by Rachel Kavanaugh promises to be a truly exciting theatrical event. Both parts can be enjoyed alone or together on the same day. Dates & times of performances vary between March 13th & April 11th. For full listings, see our March & April calendar pages. Matinee performances are available. THE
MOON, THE MOON (in
The Door) |
|
| Wednesday
1st to Saturday 4th April 2009 - 7.45pm |
A
man stands on the edge of the shore. He’s
made Christmas dinner. It’s February.
He’s going to walk across the water
and apologise to his wife’s family.
And then he’s locked in a cellar, wearing
someone else’s pyjamas. Upstairs, his
self-appointed doctor and nurse say they can
help him. Heal him. And the Moon, who has
been watching him wander out of his mind with
loss, sings to him, desperate for him to join
her. The internationally acclaimed Unlimited
Theatre’s new show is a haunting and
darkly witty new play about loving, losing
and beautiful new beginnings – lit by
a singing moon. (back

BOEING-BOEING
(in
the Main House) |
|
| Monday
20th to Saturday 25th April 2009 - 7pm |
| When
Boeing-Boeing took off to a roar of laughter
in London’s West End in 2007, the Daily
Telegraph called it ‘the funniest show
in London’. Directed by Olivier Award-winner
Matthew Warchus, this hysterical production
has since taken Broadway by storm. Audiences
and critics have been unbuckling their seatbelts
and rolling in the aisles for this first-class
Tony Award-winning comedy (Best Revival 2008).
Bernard, a successful architect living in
Paris, thinks he can easily cope with his
three air-hostess fiancées. It’s
all a question of timetables and a reliable,
long-suffering housekeeper who reluctantly
plays the role of romantic air-traffic controller.
But when his long lost cousin Robert arrives,
things start to get turbulent! Schedules change,
flights are delayed and a new turbo-charged
Boeing aircraft is introduced: chaos ensures
in this whirl of mayhem and matchmaking. Starring

SERIOUS
MONEY (in
the Main House) |
|
| Friday
8th to Saturday 23rd May 2009 - 7.30pm |
| As
Britain’s financial turmoil dominates
the headlines we step back to 1987 when the
financial world came tumbling down with the
Wall Street crash. Caryl Churchill’s
play Serious Money takes a look at the ruthless
world of corporate finance and City greed.
The Big Bang has changed the City. The square
mile has been invaded by white knights and
corporate raiders. Hot-shot dealer Billy Corman
is plotting to take over the unsuspecting
company Albion, aided and abetted by the new
breed of yuppie traders. But their plans go
awry when trader Jake Todd is found dead and
the Department of Trade and Industry is brought
in to investigate. Full of satire and humour,
Serious Money conveys the hectic excitement
and the moral danger of financial risk bringing
to life the swaggering, foul mouthed yuppies
of the 80s. A major force in British theatre,
Caryl Churchill is one of the greatest and
most celebrated playwrights of her generation.
Her plays include Cloud Nine, Top Girls and
A Number, which fast became one of the 21st
century’s most acclaimed plays. Serious
Money received its World Premiere at the Royal
Court Theatre in 1987 after which it enjoyed
runs in the West End and on Broadway.
